How Often Should You Redesign Your Website?
A recent study found that 50% of consumers believe that website design is a fundamental factor in a business's brand. Website design showcases your business's style, attitude, and aesthetic.
There's no fixed calendar rule, but there are clear signals. Most small business websites benefit from a serious look every two to three years, and a refresh of the content far more often than that.
The signals that it's time
- It's not mobile-friendly. This is urgent, not optional.
- It looks visibly older than your competitors' sites.
- You can't update it yourself — or updating it is so awkward you avoid it.
- It loads slowly, especially on a phone.
- Your services have changed and the site still describes the old ones.
- It doesn't connect to your Google Business Profile or local search strategy.
- You have no idea whether it brings you any business.
What "redesign" should mean
A good redesign isn't a new coat of paint. It's:
- Restructuring around the services customers actually search for
- Rewriting the copy in your customers' language
- Rebuilding for speed and mobile devices
- Making contact effortless on every page
- Adding analytics so results are visible
- Connecting the site to your Google Business Profile
If the design changes but none of that does, you'll have paid for a new look and the same results.
Content ages faster than design
Your design can last several years. Your content shouldn't. Hours, prices, offers, team members, service areas and photographs should be reviewed two or three times a year — which is exactly what our monthly website service covers, so nothing goes stale.
The cheapest time to fix it
If your site is outdated and you're also not showing up in local search, fix both at once. A modern website with a properly managed Google Business Profile produces compound results that neither one achieves alone. And you can see the redesign for free before you commit — every project starts with a no-obligation demo.
